Lucas Becomes Karate Double World Champion!
Congratulations to Lucas Spiers in Year 9 who became the double world champion in Karate at the WIKF World Karate Championships in Curacao in October, after winning Gold medals in both Individual and Team fighting.
After being invited to attend the Championships, Lucas started training ruthlessly for the event at the beginning of the year. Already three times European champion he was gunning for a World title, competing in the 12-13 individual and team category, as well as being asked to step up to compete in the 14-15 years team.
He started with a Gold, becoming world champion in his individuals.
He fought last in the team event final and again did very well, bringing the Gold home for the team
This makes him double world champion and reflects all the hard work he has put in.
“I was so pleased to have been selected for the World Championships, but I was also very nervous!” said Lucas. “When I got on the mat at the Championships I was still nervous, and was over thinking everything - but the adrenaline soon kicked in and I think it made me quicker and stronger. I never thought I would do it, and was truly exhilarated to have won not one, but two Gold medals at World level.”
“This is a fantastic achievement” says Headteacher, Benjamin Bond. “We are delighted to celebrate and share Lucas’ success. What an absolute star!”
