The Year 7 Rugby Team hit all the right notes last week with an emphatic display of sevens rugby at the annual Andover Schools Rugby Sevens Tournament at Charlton Sports Centre. The Clere School team was completely dominant during the pool stage of the competition recording wins over Rookwood School (20-10), Wellington Academy (15-5) and Test Valley School (45-5). Looking like the cup was theirs for the taking, the stage was set for a thrilling encounter with John Hanson School in the final. At the start of the season, the two teams met on home soil and The Clere were winners with a 10-5 final score line. Unfortunately the team couldn't quite replicate the form they showed in the earlier rounds of the competition and finish runners-up. Battered, bruised but not demoralised, The Clere School came away feeling very pleased with their efforts and quite rightly so.

Year 7 Rugby Report

Tuesday 11th October 2016

The Year 7 rugby team got off to a flying start by beating local rivals John Hanson School 20-15 in what was their first rugby fixture of the season. The game was very evenly matched with both teams putting on a very promising display of rugby given that this was their first run out of the year. But it was the try scoring prowess of Evan Jerome (who scored every single one of our four tries!) that kept us in the game. There were exceptional performances also from Joshua Beard and team captain Rudi O'Keeffe. A huge congratulations to all the players for putting on such an excellent display of early season rugby. And many thanks also to the parents who came to support the team. It really was appreciated by everyone. The Year 7 rugby team consists of:

Rudi O'Keeffe (captain), Joshua Beard, Evan Jerome, Jamie Mitchell, Cameron Kemp, Harrison Cotton, Jak Loving, Ciaran Digence, Olly Griffiths, Morgan Jones, Simon Thompson, Matthew Lowe and Jonathan Powis.

New players always welcome. The team trains on Tuesday evening after school.
