The Clere School student Harvey Salter, of Year 8, won the gold award at this year’s ‘Matt Fiddes Southern Championships’.
The championships consist of a range of Mixed Martial Arts. Harvey competed in two competitions. Harvey’s gold came in Sparring, having also competed in Hand Drills. Having fought his way to the final of the event Harvey came up against fierce opposition in the final. This competition came in the form of his brother Nathan, who attends Woolton Hill Junior School as a Year 5 student. With the whole Salter family competing on the day it was Harvey who took the highest award of the family with his gold leaving younger brother Nathan the silver.
Harvey has been training at ‘Matt Fiddes’, under the tutelage of Mr. Harefield, for 18 months. This gold award has come as further evidence of how quickly Harvey has progressed and how his skill levels have grown over those 18 months. Along with winning competitions Harvey is also part of the leadership program at the Martial Arts School. This means Harvey will learn many martial arts styles such as, ninjutsu and weapons like the katana.
Well done Harvey!
