Headteacher Letter 9 December 2020

Dear Parent/Carer

Public Health England have agreed a 6-day window after the final day of school in which schools are asked to remain contactable so they can assist with contact tracing, where necessary.  Therefore, following the Department for Education's announcement yesterday, Friday 18th December will now be an Inset Day for The Clere School.  The last day of term for students will therefore, be Thursday 17th December 2020 when we will finish after the virtual Christmas Entertainment at 1.35pm for Bubbles A, B and Year 10 and 1.50pm for Bubbles C, D and Year 11.

Finishing for students on the 17th December will allow a full 6-days before Christmas Eve for school leaders to identify positive cases of COVID-19 and to trace all relevant close contacts in order to advise them that they will need to self-isolate for 14 days.

Please be aware that the Department for Education have stated that:

  • Where a student or member of staff tests positive for COVID-19, having developed symptoms more than 48 hours since being in school (after Saturday 19th December), the school do not need to be contacted.  Parents/Carers should only need to follow contact-tracing instructions provided by NHS Test and Trace.
  • For the first 6 days after school ends, if a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, having developed symptoms within 48 hours of being in schoo(up to and including Saturday 19th December), the school should be contacted to allow them to identify close contacts within school.  Who will then be advised to self-isolate, as the student or staff member may have been infectious whilst in school.
  • School leaders will be on-call for the first 6 days of the school holidays but after this time they will not be expected to be on-call or be required to conduct contact tracing.  The national NHS Test and Trace will carry out the contact tracing for positive COVID-19 cases that developed after the 48 hours from students and staff being in school.

Thank you for your continued support.

kind regards
