The Clere School student, Holly Mills was selected to represent Great Britain at her first major international competition at the very first European Youth Championships. However, it appears selection alone was not enough for Holly who managed to win gold!
Despite strong headwinds, of up to -6.5m/s, Holly showed her composure as she produced an impressive series of jumps. Holly jumped in excess of six metres four times on her way to taking the European Youth title.
However the title did not come without its nervy moments! Maja Bedrac, of Slovenia, matched Holly's jump of 6.19m in the final round. However, it was Holly's consistency that won on the day with Holly's second best jump of 6.09m two centimetres better than her Slovenian counterpart.
Holly said “I’m so happy, I can’t even explain it. I came in ranked third and I can’t believe I ended up coming away with the gold medal."
