Every year, one million sea creatures die at the hands of plastics we have failed to recycle (UNESCO 2017). The UK uses 275,000 tonnes of plastic every year and only 45.2% of it is recycled. This means 154,000 tonnes of plastic are dumped into the oceans or buried in landfills (Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs 2016). Every square mile of ocean contains 46,000 pieces of plastic (UN Environment Programme 2006). In Europe, we use 16 tonnes of plastic per person per year (Europa.eu 2018). Seeing all these shocking figures, we have made it our mission to do our part; we want to help the environment by helping the school recycle. We want to place more recycling bins around the school to make recycling easy and convenient. With the help of www.recyclingbins.co.uk supplying us with recycling bins to help keep our school tidy, we can do our part to help.
